46.18 hectares have been faraway from the Ampara Sanctuary

The State Minister of Wildlife Conservation has reportedly proposed to clear 46.18 hectares of city and developed lands and re-establish boundaries throughout the Ampara Sanctuary.

Accordingly, the ABC sections situated within the Grama Niladhari Divisions of Samapura and Karangawa within the sanctuary are to be eliminated.

Part D of the Ampara Improvement Plan will proceed to be a part of the sanctuary.

Additionally it is reported that authorities lands haven’t been correctly cleared for improvement actions even after it was declared as a sanctuary.

The lands within the sanctuary have been developed for varied authorities and authorities associated public functions akin to municipal playgrounds and temples and a few components of the sanctuary have been handed over to the non-public sector for improvement and it is suggested that such areas be faraway from the sanctuary.

The sanctuary was declared in 1954 and covers an space of 9323.96 hectares.
